Prayer by Saint Francis of Assisi
(Patron Saint of Franciscan Order)

With Mary my soul proclaims the love of the Lord,
my Franciscan spirit exults in God, my Savior.
For He has looked with favor on His lowly servant, Francis.
Behold, all generations will call him blessed.
The Almighty has raised up a family of Franciscans
- Blessed be His Name! -
Who spread peace, love and joy to all in every generation.
Through Francis He has lavished His love on the poor;
And showed us how to love God in His creatures;
He has scattered the wicked in their ways;
He has confused the worldly in their pride;
He has given us a world-wide mission.
To fill the hungry heart with our preaching.
And with Lady Poverty to confound the rich.
Through us He has lifted up the humble;
For He has remembered His promise of peace and joy,
The promise He made to our Father Francis,
and to his followers forever.
Amen

Peace Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord,
make me an instrument of thy peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born
to eternal life.

Amen

Marian Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi (#2)

Salutation to the Blessed Virgin Mary
Hail, holy Lady, most holy Queen,
Mary, Mother of God, ever-virgin;
Chosen by the most holy Father in Heaven,
consecrated by Him
with His most holy and beloved Son
and the Holy Spirit, the Comforter.
On you descended
and in you still remains
all the fullness of grace and every good.
Hail, His palace.
Hail, His tabernacle.
Hail, His robe.
Hail, His handmaid.
Hail, His mother.
And hail, all holy virtues,
who by the grace
and inspiration of the Holy Spirit
are poured into the hearts
of the faithful so that,
faithless no longer,
they may be faithful servants of God through you.

Amen.

Prayer to Saint Francis of Assisi

Most lovable and popular Saint,
son of a go-getting and wealthy merchant of Assisi,
you discarded earthly possessions
for the Saviour you loved so dearly
and you won innumerable persons for Jesus.
How greatly we need in our day unselfish and just merchants.
Inspire them with the love of Christ for others
and with the desire for things that endure.

Amen.

Marian Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

Holy Virgin Mary,
there is none like you among women born in the world.
Daughter and handmaid of the heavenly Father,
the almighty King,

Mother of our most high Lord Jesus Christ,
and Spouse of the Holy Spirit,
pray for us to your most holy Son,
our Lord and Master.

Hail holy Lady,
most noble Queen,
Mother of God,
and Mary ever Virgin.
You were chosen by the heavenly Father,
who has been pleased to honour you
with the presence of his most holy Son
and the Divine Paraclete.
You were blessed with the fulness of grace and goodness.
Hail, Temple of God,
His dwelling place,
His masterpiece,
His handmaid.

Hail, Mother of God,
I venerate you for the holy virtues that,
through the grace and light of the Holy Spirit,
you bring into the hearts
of your devoted ones
to change them from unfaithful Christians
to faithful children of God.

Prayer Before A Crucifix by Saint Francis of Assisi

Great and glorious God, my Lord Jesus Christ!
I implore Thee to enlighten me
and to disperse the darkness of my soul.
Give me true faith, firm hope, and perfect charity.
Grant me, O Lord, to know Thee so well
that in all things I may act by Thy light
and in accordance with Thy holy will.

Amen.

Let Creation Praise The Lord by Saint Francis of Assisi

Be praised, my Lord, with all Your creatures,
Especially Brother Sun,
By whom You bring us the day and who brings us the light;
Fair is he and shines with a very great splendor.

Be praised, my Lord, for Sister Moon and the stars,
which you have set clear and lovely in heaven.

Be praised, my Lord, for Brother Wind,
and for air and cloud, calms and all weather.

Be praised, my Lord, for Sister Water,
who is very useful and humble and precious and clean.

Be praised my Lord for Brother Fire, through whom You give us light in
darkness, and he is bright and pleasant and very mighty and strong.

Be praised, my Lord, for our Sister Mother Earth, who sustains us and
keep us, and brings forth fruits and flowers of many colors and leaves.

Praise and bless my Lord, and thank Him,
And serve Him with great humility.

Canticle of Brother Sun
by Saint Francis of Assisi

Most High, all-powerful, good Lord,
Yours are the praises, the glory, the honour and all blessing,
To you alone, Most High, do they belong,
and no one is worthy to mention your name.

Praised be you, my Lord, with all your creatures,
especially Sir Brother Sun,
who is the day and through whom you give us light.
And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendour;
and bears a likeness of you, Most Holy One.

Praised be you, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars,
in heaven you formed them clear and precious and beautiful.

Praised be you, my Lord, through Brother Wind,
and through the air, cloudy and serene,
and every kind of weather,
through whom you give sustenance to your creatures.

Praised be you, my Lord, through Sister Water,
who is very useful and humble and precious and chaste.

Praised be you, my Lord, through Brother Fire,
through whom you light the night
and he is beautiful and playful and robust and strong.

Praised be you, my Lord, through our Sister Mother Earth,
who sustains and governs us,
and who produces various fruits with coloured flowers and herbs.

Praised be you, my Lord, through those who give pardon for your love,
and bear infirmity and tribulation.
Blessed are those who endure in peace
for by you, Most High, shall they be crowned.

Praised be you, my Lord, through our Sister Bodily Death,
from whom no one living can escape.
Woe to those who die in mortal sin.
Blessed are those whom death will find in your most holy will,
for the second death shall do them no harm.

Praise and bless my Lord and give him thanks
and serve him with great humility.

Canticle of Creation
by Saint Francis of Assisi

O Most High, all-powerful, good Lord God,
to you belong praise, glory,
honour and all blessing.

Be praised, my Lord, for all your creation
and especially for our Brother Sun,
who brings us the day and the light;
he is strong and shines magnificently.

O Lord, we think of you when we look at him.

Be praised, my Lord, for Sister Moon,
and for the stars
which you have set shining and lovely
in the heavens.

Be praised, my Lord,
for our Brothers Wind and Air
and every kind of weather
by which you, Lord,
uphold life in all your creatures.

Be praised, my Lord, for Sister Water,
who is very useful to us,
and humble and precious and pure.

Be praised, my Lord, for Brother Fire,
through whom you give us light in the darkness:
he is bright and lively and strong.

Be praised, my Lord,
for Sister Earth, our Mother,
who nourishes us and sustains us,
bringing forth
fruits and vegetables of many kinds
and flowers of many colours.

Be praised, my Lord,
for those who forgive for love of you;
and for those
who bear sickness and weakness
in peace and patience
- you will grant them a crown.

Be praised, my Lord, for our Sister Death,
whom we must all face.
I praise and bless you, Lord,
and I give thanks to you,
and I will serve you in all humility.

-St. Francis of Assisi
